Wall-E

This weekend my wife Heidi and I took our kids to see Wall-E, the latest movie from Pixar. I was amazed at the way a small metallic robot could convey such a range of human expression and emotions. Wall-E puts actors like Keanu Reeves to shame. My suspension of disbelief came screeching to a halt whenever Pixar mixed live action actors in with the 3D animation, and I feel they could have shown the “Hello, Dolly!” clips without having to resort to a live action version of Fred Willard, but otherwise the movie was excellent, and is easily my favourite Pixar movie to date. It has a moral, humour and romance - not an easy feat considering the first half of the movie has almost no dialogue. The movie works both for children and adults, although the message was kind of lost on our kids. I guess that means the movie works as pure entertainment as well, which is a good thing.

Back to Blogging

After being inspired by an episode of TWIT, and purchasing a discounted copy of MacJournal - which is really cool by the way - I’ve decided to get back into blogging. Hmmm - one thing it needs is a _blank option for links, but anyway...
As you may or may not know, my life is pretty bloody exciting, so I don’t always have time to write entries. But as they say, sometimes you have to make the time. So today I saw an airplane pulling a banner that read, “APPLY TO KWANTLEN - NOW A UNIVERSITY!", which I thought was pretty cool. Ok, I just noticed that I’ve used the word ”cool“ twice now. Time to find some new adjectives. Sweeeeeet.

MacWorld 2007 Predictions

Well as usual I've left it to the last minute, but I want this on the record in case I'm right. If I'm wrong I'll just delete this post...

I'm going to predict a quad core Mac Pro as my safe bet. I think it's a given and it'll also piss me off since I ordered a dual core Mac Pro the day they were announced. They get extra piss off points if they add a better video card and FrontRow support.

Next, I'll predict the "true" video iPod with a stylus, a la the Nintendo DS. If you don't want to smudge up your screen, a stylus that just pops in and out of the side of the iPod's case makes sense to me.

Here's my total guess: a dedicated RSS reader as part of iLife 07. I read somewhere that 2007 is the year of RSS, so let's see if Apple agrees.

I also think the iTV will be released, and Leopard's new features will be demoed in full.

What's a Houdah?

MacZOT.com is currently running a BlogZOT on HoudahSpot, a replacement for Tiger's Spotlight. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about, so I downloaded a trial on my Mac mini and tried a couple of searches. I did a clean install of Tiger about 6 months ago, so I wasn't expecting to find much, but I ended up discovering a folder containing backups of files I'd copied over from my PC and forgotten all about. I've since purchased an external drive for backing up such files, so HoudahSpot has helped me to free up over 20 Gigs worth of space that was being wasted on my mini's hard drive. Pretty sweet.

Pzizz Sleep Module on MacZOT.com

If you're anything like me (poor bastards), you have trouble sleeping some nights, because your mind is busy at work thinking about your latest project, your last project, your next project, when Vista will be out, whether you should buy an iMac, etc. Now MacZOT is offering help for us geeks.

MacZOT.com Fans want Pzizz because 'According to the National Sleep Foundation, sleep deprivation and its effect on work performance may be costing U.S. employers some $18 billion each year in lost productivity. Another study pushes this cost to over $100 billion.' - link to full article
