Yesterday I called up a local company to talk about potential freelance work. I was greeted by questions about what "system" I use. What it came down to was the fact that the guy on the other end of the phone was a "Mac Head". An elitist, Pro-Mac, Anti-PC sort who I'd rather not deal with in the first place. He went on to deride me about my choice of system, tell me that all professional, "world class" design companies use Macs and then suggested that if I was truly serious about my work that I should switch to a Mac too.
For starters, I'm not about to spend the $4000+ to buy a G5 and a bunch of software to replace my Windows versions. For another thing, since I do a lot of web design and the majority of users have PCs, why would I design on a Mac? I suppose the bottom line is that I don't appreciate this mentality. And since I was calling the aforementioned business from a list I have, I decided to check out his site. I won't mention any names since I'm not going to lower myself to that level, but suffice to say his work was by no means "world class". Looked more like a bunch of slightly altered clip art to me. Oops - I feel myself lowering. Enough said.
